The Outback 4wd Club Inc. was established in Alice Springs in June 1996.
Our aim is to provide a safe and social environment for people to enjoy the many benefits 4wding has to offer. We are a friendly mix of singles, couples and families, from novices to experienced professional off road drivers. Our members drive a vast variety of vehicles, from soft-roaders, AWD, 4WD and modified 4WD vehicles.
The Club organises both day and overnight trips out bush, social activities in, and out of town, and provides assistance to other organisations. The club also conducts training days for members with different levels of experience from newcomers to seasoned drivers.
We visit many of the iconic locations in Central Australia including:
- Finke Gorge National Park (Palm Valley and Boggy Hole)
- Owen Springs Reserve and Redbank Waterhole
- Witjirra National Park (Mt Dare, Dalhousie, Purni Bore and the Simpson Desert)
- Chamber Pillar and Rainbow Valley
- Arltunga Historical Reserve (Binns Track, Old Ambalindum)
- East and West MacDonnell Ranges
- Davenport Ranges
Our members have been involved with the Finke Desert Race since 1997 including assisting with sweep vehicles, communications, manning checkpoints and race control.
We have been involved in vital fund-raising for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, as well as other charitable needs as they arise.
Our club is actively involved with projects with NT Parks and Wildlife. We encourage and promote the Leave No Trace principles and looking after the environment.
Having an affiliation with 4WD NT our members are eligible to participate in an insurance cover that provides real public liability cover in all locations. Members are required to furnish their own comprehensive car insurance, for any accidental damage to their vehicle.
The Outback 4WD Club is an incorporated association, and as such, adheres to a constitution and a series of rules and bylaws. We meet on the third Wednesday of each month unless there is a special meeting, which may stray from this rule from time to time. Check the events page to see what's coming next.
