Iytwelepenty / Davenport Ranges National Park

Two vehicles went to Iytwelepenty ( I can’t pronounce it either). We went via the Stuart highway, to the Plenty onto the Sandover then onto the Binns Track. Fairly easy Four Wheel drive county but with the Sandover being the roughest.
We stayed at Policeman’s Water hole which is the site of a failed cattle station, then a Police Station. A small part of the ruins are still there. The weather was hot and sunny in the mid 30 during the day with the nights being mild enough for a blanket. We saw a number of birds mainly Budgies, Galahs, Cockatiels, Ducks, Kites and Darter. The best bit was the daily swim to cool down.
My planning of fuel was precise, I drove into Wauchope fuel station hands raised thinking yes I have made it. My fuel light had been on for the last 45km at this point my engine stopped and I rolled to a stop just making the Diesel Bowser. Phew… not the best way of doing things. Lesson learnt, driving dirt tracks reduce my fuel consumption.
From there we drove back to Karlu Karlu and overnighted there. I have been there a number of times, but I do enjoy the country and the photography there.
