Trip with Bundaberg 4WD Club and BBQ

26 Aug 2019 by Bernhard Kuepper

On this sunny Sunday morning 8 vehicles of the Bundaberg 4WD Club met with 6 vehicles (Rhys, Ray, Tash & James, Danielle and Kyal, Ian and Rosemary & myself) at the Heavy Tree Gap Servo.
After a meet and greet the trip rules were laid out and we relocated to the Ghan Clay Pans to show the spot for the evening and have a little go at the first climb to warmup.
After lots of fun we had a slow but steady drive over the Razorback Ridge towards Pine Gap. Time permitting we skipped the last hill and turned back towards the highway. From there the group (minus Tash & James) drove down Old South Road and United with the second group who had a late start at Ooraminna Station for lunch. Waiting for us were Michael & Angelique, Peta, Jol, his carer and Brett).
After a delicious lung buffet with occasional desert on individual initiative the guests reviewed the movie set. From there Jol took us to the Offroad Race Track and did give us some insight into sand dune driving in the heat of the afternoon.
Around 4.30 the vehicles did make an individual return to Alice, some after airing up. Our guests did prep their vehicles for their return trip to Queensland.
Rhys and I did prep the campfire.
At 6pm the two groups joined at the campfire and had a good chat and dinner. Our club donated the sausages and steaks. People brought further contributions. Kyal even did a massive cake for desert! Yum!
Thanks were given and received. We were presented with a bottle of Bundi Rum to raffle it of in the club as a fundraiser. Johno our president did get it for safe keeping.
We all went home and felt happy with the new impressions we made.
Very warm thanks go out to Jol wo showed us around the racetrack and gave us lots of background information.
