Arltunga Tourist Drive

20 Nov 2016 by Stephanie Dominguez

It was a hot day, probably more suited to lazing about in a pool all day with a beer in hand, but we did the trip anyway.

Unfortunately, the Grierson’s were unable to join us due to vehicle issues related to dirty fuel.

We started the day with a scenic drive through the East MacDonnell Ranges, turning onto Binns Track to get to the Arltunga Historical Reserve.

We stopped in at Arltunga to have a look at some of the old mining history, equipment and stamp battery. All interesting stuff, but very hot.

We continued on to Hale River Homestead (Old Ambalindum) for a bite to eat. The kiosk was open, so some cooled down with an ice cream after lunch. A few went off to look at the ‘lookout’ and we checked out Lake Ambalindum.

The journey home was relatively uneventful. There was plenty of cattle around and it appeared to have rained in the last 24 hours with some puddles about.

All in all, a good day.
