Trip Leader – Kirsten Johnston

We will meet at the Hungry Jacks carpark at 1pm for a 1.15pm departure on the Saturday. Gem Tree is located approximately 140km north east of Alice Springs on the Plenty Highway. It is bitumen all the way. We should arrive at Gem Tree around 2.30-3pm. The afternoon will be spent setting up camp, sitting under a tree reading, socialising, having a quiet drink, or whatever you like really. We intend to eat at the camp oven kitchen – the camp oven roast dinner is prepared by Gem Tree and starts at 6.30pm.

The next morning (Sunday), we will get up and have breakky, pack up and then head down the Pinnacles Road to the Arltunga Tourist Drive. The Pinnacles Road and the Arltunga Tourist Drive are unsealed roads. We will then make our way to Hale River Homestead where we will have lunch (you can bring your own or we can eat at the Homestead). Please let me know if you would like to eat at the Homestead so I can let them know we are coming. Following lunch we will make our way to the Arltunga Historical Reserve for a look at the visitor centre. We will then proceed home and should return to Alice Springs by 5pm.

On the trip, the only place you will be able to fuel up is at Gem Tree. The total distance of the trip is around 400km. Please bring your own camping gear (if camping) and plenty of water.

Please book your own accommodation/camp site and camp oven kitchen experience at Gem Tree on 8956 9855. Mention you are with the Outback 4WD Club as they are expecting us.

Costs for this stay are outlined below:

- Camp oven kitchen roast dinner – $20
- Powered site – $35
- Unpowered site – $27
- Cabins are booked out
- Dongas – Single $50 per night
– 2 twin singles are $60 per night

The trip leader is remote first aid qualified. We will travel in convoy and communicate on Channel 10.
